Platinum Honors makes a return to the AGTA Spectrum Awards this year, thanks to the renewed sponsorship of Platinum Guild International, to recognize outstanding use of platinum in colored gemstone and/or pearl jewelry. In order for a piece to be eligible in this division, the platinum must meet ISO standards (900 or 950) and must comprise at least 90 percent of the metal used. A Platinum Honors award will be presented in each of the existing six lifestyle categories: bridal wear, classical, day wear, men's wear, best use of platinum, and color.
Winners of the Platinum Honors award in each category will receive a Platinum Honors trophy, which will be presented at the annual AGTA dinner in Tucson in 2009, along with individual value-added media and promotional packages, valued between $8,000 and $30,000, from PGI. "We are very pleased to have the Platinum Guild involved with the Spectrum Awards again," Douglas Hucker said in a media release. "Many of our entrants enjoy working with platinum and this will provide them an opportunity for increased recognition and exposure." The AGTA Spectrum Awards™, considered the most respected and prestigious creative award for the design industry, has been honoring artistic excellence for over two decades. Launched in 1984, Spectrum recognizes the innovative use of natural gemstones and cultured pearls in finished fine jewelry design. AGTA promotes the collection in the media on the trade and consumer levels. Entry forms and rules can be found at the AGTA Web site, Agta.org/awards and the Platinum Honors check box on the entry form must be marked by the entrant for the piece to be considered.
