New Year Resolution - be responsible!
An increasing number of jewelers are claiming their jewelry to be 'green' simply because the precious metal content has been purchased from a refinery that has recycled the material. But surely it shouldn't begin and end there.
For a start what about the other metals in the alloy? Are these recycled as well? And what about the refiner? How do their processes and practises impact on the people and the environment in and around their business? It is important to check these factors to ensure what is claimed to be green is truly green. And what about the jeweler's own operations? Have these also been set up or developed to limit or nullify any negative impact? The consequences if this is not the case can reflect badly not just on the individual jeweler and their supply chain but on our whole industry.
Johnson Matthey NY's approach to being a responsible supplier can be found by clicking here. There are some good pointers on how anyone can start to make their business more sustainable and often, as a result, more profitable.
We'd love to talk to you more about it and hope to see you at the MJSA NY Expo in March. .
